Hemp vs. Marijuana: The Physical Reality of the Cannabis Plant

Most people don't realize that there is a difference between hemp and marijuana, which are both "cousins" and different varieties of the same species of plant.  Marijuana is a short bushy plant that has a flowering top and is grown for potency and its psychoactive component, THC--which has medical benefits.

Hemp, on the other hand, does not have a high THC content (at all, typically only 1%) and is grown for its versatility as a raw material for textile and housing applications. Rather than THC, it is grown for its seeds, oil, and fiber.
